We were lucky enough last Summer to photograph a wedding at the stunning Clearwell Castle for Rebecca and Gary. This was a truly amazing venue with such a sense of scale, and both myself and Mike were really looking forward to having the opportunity to do some wedding photography there.
The day started as per usual with some bridal prep and groomsmen prep in the morning. Rebecca was based in the castle itself having spent the first part of her morning in an on-site cottage, while Gary was getting ready in the ‘portcullis studio’. The room where the ceremony takes place is a beautiful, long room which underwent a transformation later in the day for the wedding breakfast. After the ceremony we headed straight outside for group photographs on the steps, and having taken a couple of groups the rain came down. Everyone moved back indoors and to their surprise (and ours!) were met by a Mariachi band! The weather started to dry up and we moved back outside for the rest of the group photographs before the wedding breakfast, and then explored the grounds with Rebecca and Gary for their couple photographs. There were some brilliant personal touches in this wedding and we can honestly say as wedding photographers that it was our first time capturing guests dancing to a Mariachi band…but hopefully not the last!
For the camera buffs…
The shots below were mostly take on my Canon 5D MkIII. Mike also uses a 5D and in addition to this shoots with a Canon 1D as his second body. At this point I was using a Canon 7D as my second body, although it was mostly there as a back-up, but this wedding was also my Fujifilm X-T1’s first outing. The X-T1 uses an electronic viewfinder, and having shot with the 7D and 5D for so long I was very much used to their optical viewfinders. I found the EVF difficult to adjust to at first being able to actually see the exposure of the shot before you take it, as opposed to judging it from the in camera meter. It didn’t take long though to be won over by the Fuji’s EVF, and it was a joy to use at it’s first wedding.
