They cause chaos wherever they go. Everything is a playground to them. They’re a liability to themselves and their friends.
(I’m talking of course about the groomsmen post-reception.) Now on to the main topic.
Kids are hilarious at weddings. I guess it’s a combination of factors, but not least of all the fact that there’s no sense of self inhibition – they’ll do pretty much what they want and have a great time while they’re at it. It’s for this reason that they make for some great moments in wedding photography. As a (mostly) reportage wedding photographer (or documentary / photojournalist, call it what you will) I spend 80% of the day looking for interesting moments – all the better if there’s humour there too. It’s a challenge with adults because we all tend to be self-conscious, even if only a little bit. It’s for this reason that I enjoy photographing the dancing so much; everyone tends to let their hair down and basically act like big kids at a wedding.
I’ve photographed weddings all over the country, from my hometown Cheltenham, to Essex, to Oxford, to Bath, to Bristol…the list goes on. Every wedding is different from the location, to the people, to the timings on the day. One thing you can guarantee though is that if they’re there the kids will be having a blast.
