Door 19: Sky High at Bordesley Park
Fujifilm X-Pro 2 – 16mm 1.4 – 1/1000sec – f/11 – ISO 1000
For today’s door of my ‘blogvent calendar’ we’re back in Redditch at the lovely Bordesley Park for another wedding photograph. This time, something a little unusual…
I’m 80% sure that this is the groom in this photograph. The reason I can’t quite recall is that several of the groomsmen (groom included) were taking full advantage of Bordesley Park’s built-in trampoline. Yes, you read that correctly. Tucked away on one of the sides of the fairly large expanse of land is a little circular trampoline dug into the ground. Doing my usual walk of the venue I saw them all having a good time and thought I’d take a few shots.
A little bit of the technical context surrounding the picture. I played it safe with some easy pictures first, after which point I envisaged a semi-silhouette against the deep blue sky. For anyone who has so much as taken a single photograph in their life, you’ll know how hard it can be to photograph fast moving targets. The cameras often struggle to keep up with quick action and lose focus. Fortunately my cameras are pretty good and could most likely have gotten this shot with ease, but to be on the safe side I put the camera completely into manual mode. This meant that I controlled the exposure myself (how bright or dark the scene is) using the 3 main parameters available (aperture, ISO and shutter speed), but I also was relying on manual focus as opposed to autofocus. This makes life surprisingly easy – I set a zone for where the trampoline is and make sure it’s in focus, then shoot away!
A surreal photograph, but one that captures this particular moment from a different perspective.
