Door 11: Magic? Bribery?
Fujifilm X-Pro 2 – 56mm 1.2 – 1/2200sec – f/1.2 – ISO400
This is a slightly unusual choice, but I really like the story-telling quality of this wedding photograph.
A little context: we’re at Manor by the Lake in Cheltenham, where the ceremony happened about an hour ago. Guests are relaxing, the couple having requested posed shots have just finished them and I’m walking around looking for ‘moments’.
What makes a ‘moment’ to me?
Something that will make me think or feel when I look at the photograph. Something that will make me laugh. Something that will ask a question.
Something that will tell a story.
It doesn’t necessary have to be all of those things, but if I can tick one or two of those boxes then I’ve found the picture I’m looking for. This one could probably be filed under the ‘something that will me me laugh’ and ‘tell a story’ categories. I imagine it possibly ticks the other two boxes too.
So I literally have no idea what is going on in this picture. But my gut tells me it’s some form of either a) magic trick, or b) bribery. Place your bets!
Either way, it’s a picture that I love mostly for the unanswered question. I shot it from a fair distance away with a reasonably long lens so as to not disturb the moment, but I also wanted to grab the shot before I lost it. You’ll notice that I opted for colour, which isn’t normally the case for this kind of image. Part of the reason was that I felt it added a sense of reality to the photograph, the other reason is that I quite liked the autumnal colours from the tree in the background.
