Door 5: Happy
Fujifilm X-Pro 2 – 23mm 1.4 – 1/3200sec – f/4.5 – ISO 400
‘The happy couple’. I feel like this photograph would fit that description pretty well.
A little bit of context – we’re in Redditch at a venue called Bordesley Park and have just left the ceremony. The bride and groom are over the moon.
Here’s the thing about this picture; it’s not my best photograph technically – if I shot it again I’d probably try to strengthen the composition a little bit. But that’s sort of what I like about it. The most important thing in my wedding photography is the moment. I captured that moment.
As a wedding photographer something I’ve learned through many weddings of experience is when to take your time with an image and when to just go for it. You can be sure that if I asked this couple to re-enact this moment (something that I never do) it wouldn’t look or feel this genuine. My opinion is that you can’t pose that sort of raw joy.
