Wedding Photography from
Novel Focus Photography specialises in wedding photography all over the United Kingdom and is based in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. Novel Focus Photography was created a few years ago with one main goal; to take wedding photographs as unobtrusively as possible telling stories through the images to reflect the emotions of your day.
I love capturing moments as much as you will love reliving them time after time, and truly believe that brilliant wedding photographs can open the door to a world of memories.
Genuine emotion will stand the test of time.
“Unobtrusive”. “Professional”. “Discreet”. “Friendly”. “Highly recommended”. “Above and beyond our expectations”. “Truly brought our day back to us”.
These are just some of the things that I’ve had the pleasure of reading when past clients have described their experience with Novel Focus Photography. Read more here.
My style is best defined as reportage wedding photography, a.k.a documentary / photojournalism; this means that my primary focus is capturing natural, real, genuine moments. However, I would go one step further than this and say that my wedding photography can be simplified as personal to you (I aim to reflect who you are and your relationships with everyone around you in my pictures) and every bit as personal to me; I’m emotionally attached to my photographs, they show the world through my eyes and I want to share that with you (take a look at this short post about one of my favourite wedding photography memories). That’s all there is to it. My style leans towards capturing natural moments, but should you want to have posed images I aim to create pictures that draw on real emotion.
Take a look at some of my favourite photographs from 2016 in the photofilm below.
Your memories in colour and black & white
I love black and white photographs as I believe that they give images a certain timeless quality. As such, I have refined my black and white images to create the distinct style you’ll see on my portfolio. I do however believe that not everyone may love black and white as much as I do, and so every image is supplied in colour and a portion are also converted to black and white.
In short, wherever there’s a black and white image in your final pictures you’ll receive the colour version too.
Over the years my wedding photography has taken me to a huge number of different wedding venues. There are some that I return to time after time (Manor by the Lake in Cheltenham, for example, is one that I’ve had the pleasure of visiting on several occasions) but more often than not I’m in completely new locations. If a venue is new to me, I always take a trip there before the wedding to get the lay of the land and make sure that I know what will be happening where.
On the day itself I’m always looking to be as discreet as possible; you won’t catch me creating impromptu group shots by disturbing the guests while they’re having fun. That’s just not the way I work. I want pictures of people being themselves as much as possible. All the memories I have of my family are from snapshots of real life – I remember the time my nephew started crawling, I remember going on a photography trip with my dad, I remember cups of tea in the afternoon with my mum.
I approach the wedding day trying to find the moments that you’ll want to remember. The moments that show who all of these people really are and what they mean to you.
Take a look around my site and see if you think I’ll be a good fit for your wedding day. A good place to start is with the portfolio section, which has a taster of some of my wedding photography. After you’ve visited that, why not head over to take a look at the prices where you can find more information about my wedding photography package starting from £599. “Apart from Matt introducing himself and grabbing us for our posed photos we didn’t know that he was there on the day which was absolutely PERFECT for us! We don’t like posing for photos, even a ‘selfie’ is a ‘grin and bare it’ kind of moment when it comes to Paul and I so not feeling like anyone was there taking the photos worked brilliantly and we have some beautiful, natural, in the moment shots to prove it!
Matt was punctual, polite and discrete, our family and friends have all commented on how lovely he was and we couldn’t have wished for anything more!
Thank you Matt for capturing our day in the same way as we remember it, we would recommend you in a heartbeat.”
